“Ghost Girl, Waiting”

Japanese ghosts, the yurei, are spirits who remain among the living until some task is complete, until their excess of emotion has been stilled. Their souls might linger for centuries, and some are never fully appeased. They exist for a purpose known only to themselves, hovering at the edges of human perception.
This ghost girl is a creature possessed by emotion, devotion, and—if you are unlucky—retribution. She never wavers. Her passion is absolute. If it is you she loves, she will never, ever stop loving you. She will never, ever leave the edges of your world, and you never know when she might enter its center…

“The Rousing of the Book”
“Outraged that none of the archivists seemed concerned anymore by the quietly disappearing pages, the astronomer resolved to pull himself out of the book just long enough to vanquish the mouse and save the cosmological table he had composed centuries ago. There was no other copy, after all.”
This piece is part of a series of book-oriented works that protest the de-acquisitioning and destruction of physical books. This willingness to discard books in vast numbers signals a dismaying lack of cultural investment in the challenges and rewards of serious engagement with antiquarian works.

“The Merman”

Did you know that the Merman, native to far northern seas, can cure illness and lift curses? Some say, of course, that Mermen cause storms. Some say, of course, that they do so in order to drag the human casualties to their underwater kingdoms–although no one ever relates what happens next. And tales of their seductive powers abound in various myths and legends of the world. Even presuming that these stories are exaggerated, you should be in no doubt that the Merman is proud and somewhat dangerous, even to the humans whom he regards with great curiosity.
Renaissance paintings are witness that humans have often given coral beads to children to protect them from various ills. Just how this power works is the sole knowledge of the Merman…

“Petal Offerings at the Wishing Well”

As soon as the blooming begins (in a gentler part of the wood), small flower and tree sprites bring petals to the wishing well. As the water is sweetened, it answers all requests. We can only imagine, of course, what a flower sprite wishes for…

“Fire Demon”

The Fire Demon must be approached with caution. He is patient, waiting, generous with time as those he watches think to modify, repent, reform. If they do, so much the better. The Demon is, after all, one small part of a larger whole that is better served by grace. If, however, choices follow other paths, he will enjoy delineating the errors made…

“Ghost Girl, Storm Clouds”

Ghost girls never forget. They never, never stop loving. They never, never stop watching. They can, at times, be dangerous.
This ghost girl is a creature possessed by passion and by patience, a combination that eludes the living and empowers the spirits. She watches now from storm clouds–did they gather at her beckoning? Will she simply observe the storm unfold, or will she protect the mortal she follows?
Art sculpture, needle felted.
Dimensions: 5.5″ x 6″
This piece is SOLD.
